Hangzhou is calm if you avoid weekend bottlenecks. Plan West Lake loops, Lingyin Temple, Longjing tea village, Shanghai rail links and hotel areas.
Hangzhou is the easy scenic add-on from Shanghai. The rail link is simple and the city feels greener almost immediately.
West Lake is free, but the real cost is poor timing. Weekend afternoons can make the lakeside feel like a queue.
Longjing tea areas are lovely when the weather is clear. In heavy rain, swap them for Lingyin Temple, museums, and a slow meal.
